The Prudential, the UK’s biggest insurance company, is on the hunt

for a new corporate relations director following the departure of Jan

Shawe to Sainsbury’s.

Shawe announced her move this week, following her former boss Sir Peter

Davis to the supermarket giant. Davis became chief executive at

Sainsbury’s last month and has brought Shawe across to replace Dominic

Fry, who is leaving at the end of May but declined to comment on his

future plans.

Headhunters are thought to have been hired in a bid to replace

Shawe.

The company’s group chief executive officer Jonathan Bloomer, promoted

last month from finance director into Davis’ position, is said by a

spokesman to be personally involved in the hunt for a successor.

The new appointee will have responsibility for media relations, internal

communications, brand management, public affairs and corporate social

responsibility. In all, Shawe oversaw more than 35 staff and had overall

charge of PR across the Prudential’s retail and internet banking, global

and insurance businesses.

Although the individual businesses use PR agencies for consumer or

product PR, at a corporate level, the Prudential only uses

Brunswick.

It is not known when Shawe will start at Sainsbury’s, but Davis is

understood to be keen for her to start as soon as possible, having

worked with her for many years, on projects including the launch of Egg,

the UK’s first internet bank.
