Public Affairs: The Week in Lobbying

Bell Pottinger Public Affairs has hired Claire Jakobsson as an account director.

Since 2005, she has worked at the House of Commons Parliamentary Resources Unit as senior adviser on energy and climate change. She will join BPPA at the start of next month's Conservative Party Conference, and will be based in the agency's energy and climate change unit.

APCO Worldwide has appointed Sovereign Strategy consultant and former Public Affairs News editor Jolyon Kimble as an associate director in its Brussels office. Kimble joined Sovereign in 2006 and most recently served as director of the Middle East, Africa and Asia region.

Penna, the human resources consultancy, is reviewing public affairs support with the aim of hiring a new agency by October. Penna has been working with Bell Pottinger Public Affairs since the start of the year. BPPA has been invited to repitch.

Airbus has promoted head of comms Katherine Bennett to be VP of public affairs for Airbus worldwide. The firm is now recruiting for her successor as head of comms in the UK.

The UK Speechwriters' Guild is holding its annual conference in Bournemouth on 17 September. Speakers include Tony Blair's former speechwriter Phillip Collins and BA chairman Martin Broughton.
