PRWeek spoke to a number of young people who are working for agencies for free. One current PR intern said: 'If I had asked for money with the placement I am doing, I am guessing that I would not have been picked. There are people interested in the same role who would have done it for free.'

A lack of graduate placements at agencies is understood to have led to increasing numbers of young people undertaking unpaid internships to get a foot in the door. PRCA boss Francis Ingham warned this should not lead to graduates being treated as 'cannon fodder'.
