PUBLIC SECTOR: Press officer takes reins at probation body

The Inner London Probation Service (ILPS) has appointed Susan Lord as head of PR. She is the first person to hold the position who has not previously served as a probation officer. The appointment is a promotion for Lord, who had worked as a press officer for ILPS prior to the departure of previous head of press Mark Boother, who moved on to head the youth offending team at Waltham Forest. Lord’s brief will be to formulate and implement a new PR strategy for the service, which faces high profile coverage of issues such as the release of sex offenders into the community. ILPS is the biggest UK probation service and is the only London service to have a dedicated head of PR from outside the service.
