PUBLIC SECTOR: Smith leaves Yorkshire to head PR at Torbay

Torbay Council has brought in Alex Smith to head its press and PR department, the top communications job at the council. Smith’s first job will be to deal with media frenzy associated with the solar eclipse, but more long term aspects of his brief will be to carry out a strategic review in order to improve communications for the council which is one of the UK’s new unitary authorities. Smith moves from his previous role as press officer at the East Riding of Yorkshire Council and replaces Peter Surcombe who has moved to Devon and Cornwall police as press and PR manager.
