The firm was set up in 2008 to provide PR chiefs with comprehensive morning media briefings. Clients include Barclays, Pepsi, McDonald's and the CBI.

This week the company opened a New York office - its first venture outside the UK.

NewsFirst managing director McShane is a former comms adviser to Tony Blair who helped set up the UK Government's round-the-clock media monitoring unit, based on a service established for Labour in 1997.

He said: 'At present, the US market is remarkably badly served by media monitoring. We plan to shake things up.'
