McManus has worked as a special adviser in three government departments and from 1995 to 2000 was head of Edward Heath's private office. More recently, he has served as an adviser to Tory peer Lord Hunt. He is currently a senior special adviser at law firm Beachcroft LLP and starts at Bell Pottinger next month.
The Whitehouse Consultancy has been retained by the Association of Educational Psychologists. The agency will work to ensure the Government's education reforms give consideration to the overall wellbeing of children, and to the importance of provisions such as educational psychology. At the same time, The Nappy Alliance has returned to Whitehouse after a break of several years from political engagement, with a brief to highlight the importance of waste minimisation and the value of reusable nappies.
Admiral, the Newcastle-based comms agency, is to expand its public affairs offering with the hire of former Finsbury consultant Chris Kelsey. He joins as account director. Admiral MD Georgie Cameron said: 'One area we have been keen to enhance is that of public affairs and regulatory issues support.'
