DIARY: GCI is Pacific bound for Camel Trophy’s challenge

This week’s nomination for luckiest man in PR is Mark Landsberg,

senior account manager at GCI London.

He has just returned from a five-week ’work’ assignment to promote

client Camel Trophy’s international adventure challenge which was held

in Tonga and Samoa.

This involved travelling around the island on a ’rigid inflatable boat’,

feeding news stories back to a mainland press office, also staffed by a

GCI team. While in Tonga itself, Landsberg had the pleasure of meeting

all the country’s A-list celebs - the King, Miss Tonga and the Tongan

rugby team.

Landsberg is less-than-convincing in his argument that ’we did have a

job to do’.

’We had to interview people ... although it was sitting around a

campfire on a desert island,’ he admits.

Actually, things didn’t go entirely smoothly. The event was scheduled to

take place in Fiji and Tonga, when it was planned 18 months ago. But two

weeks before it started, a military coup took place, and a new location

was hastily sought.
