The wedding of Gordon Brown and Sarah Macaulay caused the press to

suspend hostilities with the Government - at least ’for a day’ according

to the Daily Telegraph (4/8).

Macaulay was given wide-spread credit for her PR expertise. Her

company’s description in the Observer (6/8), as ’one of Britain’s most

influential PR companies’ should prove useful in future business

pitches.

Although lacking the kudos of an OK! spread, Sainsbury’s must have been

delighted to have seen their pounds 11.99 sparkling Blanc de Noir

featuring so prominently, although the Daily Telegraph (8/8), tried to

make mischief by suggesting that these were millennium leftovers.

Both the papers and their readers were delighted that Brown remained in

’prudent’ mode over the wedding arrangements.

Several commentators noted that Brown’s prospects as a future PM were

enhanced by the union, with the likelihood of a Brown baby a further ace

up the Chancellor’s sleeve in due course.
