MEDIA: Rybczynski is set to bolster BBC’s weekend news

The BBC has appointed Chris Rybczynski to the newly created position of weekend editor for BBC Television News with a brief to co-ordinate output on BBC1, BBC2, News 24 and BBC World.

The BBC has appointed Chris Rybczynski to the newly created

position of weekend editor for BBC Television News with a brief to

co-ordinate output on BBC1, BBC2, News 24 and BBC World.

The appointment follows the BBC’s admission that its weekend TV news

coverage has been lacking. ’We haven’t been as strong as we could have,’

a spokesman admitted.

Rybczynski will be responsible for using correspondents and other

resources more efficiently at weekends. Currently acting editor of the

One O’Clock News, she will take up her new post when editor Jay Hunt

returns from maternity leave next month.

Rybczynski was a launch editor on BBC News 24 and assistant editor on

the Today programme. She is also a former programme editor for GMTV and

ITN news editor.

The BBC insists the move is not a direct response to rivals. ’We have

been comparing our weekend output with our day output,’ a spokesman

said.
