UKAS, the United Kingdom Accreditation Service, has appointed two

agencies, Golley Slater and Edelman PR Worldwide, following a six-way

competitive pitch.

Golley Slater will be responsible for on-going media relations support,

while Edelman will be producing a new corporate brochure and other

publications.

They join lobbying agency GJW-BSMG, which was taken on to provide

parliamentary monitoring earlier this year.

UKAS is undergoing a PR and communications rebirth under the leadership

of head of corporate communications Marc Cranfield-Adams. He was

appointed to the newly-created post in December last year with a budget

to outsource work. He has also been in charge of a rebranding exercise

which has included the appearance of the Royal Crown on all corporate

stationery.

’UKAS is under pressure from the Department of Trade and Industry to

raise both its profile and that of accreditation in general,’

Cranfield-Adams said.

’Golley Slater’s brief will be handling media relations, but it will be

tied in with an awareness campaign,’ he said.

Edelman will be involved initially in producing a corporate brochure for

the body. But longer term, UKAS will be looking to produce a suite of

publications.

UKAS is the sole body recognised by the government to accredit

organisations that certify and evaluate management systems, equipment,

products and people. Its brief covers the people and laboratories that

certify, among others, e-commerce, organic foods and nuclear fuel.
