Manning Selvage and Lee has appointed Janette Hughes to its newly

created role of director of healthcare, Europe.

She joins from pharmaceutical company Bayer, where she was

vice-president, head of strategic product marketing, based in

Germany.

Hughes reports to US-based Ann Moravick, senior VP and MD of global

health, and Jackie Elliot who is MD of MS&L London. She will take

responsibility for healthcare in MS&L’s London office, where she is

based, as well as those in Paris, Milan and Frankfurt, and its network

of European affiliates.

Moravick said her vision for the pan-European role was to create as many

synergies for clients as possible. She was previously responsible for

Europe, but said that ’having someone on the ground locally is more

effective’.

Moravick will now focus on developing the Asian business.

A New Zealander, Hughes previously ran the drug information service at

the Royal Free Hospital, Hampstead. Trained as a pharmacist, she has

worked in pharmaceutical marketing, clinical pharmacy and hospital

management.

Moravick said of Hughes: ’Her background spans across borders and

cultures. She is the perfect fit for our clients’ diverse global

businesses.’

Hughes said her experience at Bayer had shown her how PR was becoming

increasingly important to new drugs well before they are at launch

stage.

’The earlier you bring PR into the mix, the better for the success of a

product,’ she said.

MS&L’s pan-European clients include pharmaceutical company Eli Lilly and

Agilent Technologies, a maker of monitoring equipment.
