Hudson Sandler has takeover talks with Havas

Financial specialist Hudson Sandler has confirmed it is in talks with marketing services group Havas over a potential pounds 20 million takeover.

Financial specialist Hudson Sandler has confirmed it is in talks

with marketing services group Havas over a potential pounds 20 million

takeover.

According to Hudson board director Alistair Mackinnon-Musson, both

parties are in ’ongoing discussions’.

Although Hudson is privately owned, it is affiliated to the Havas-owned

Grayling Group. The relationship between Hudson and Havas dates back to

the French company’s acquisition of Lopex a year ago after Incepta Group

had made a hostile bid (PR Week, 23 July). At the time Hudson advised

Lopex to accept the Havas deal.

Hudson would have a strong appeal to Havas as the agency is one of a

decreasing number of independent financial agencies in the City. Havas

does not have a financial PR presence within London.

For Hudson the deal would introduce the agency to European companies

seeking London support.

It is not clear whether the potential deal will take the form of an

outright acquisition or a majority share holding. However, nothing will

be finalised until September.
