Littlewoods Leisure, the pools and betting arm of UK retailer
Littlewoods, has appointed a PR manager following a restructure.
Sarah Batley will lead an in-house team of two, reporting to Littlewoods
Leisure managing director Jeremy Collis. The position, based in
Liverpool, had been vacant since November 1999. The company has no
retained PR agency, and has no plans to hire one.
The restructure clarified reporting lines in all departments and the
main change is that PR becomes stand alone, concentrating on media
relations and corporate and internal communications, rather than just
supporting the marketing function. The previous PR manager Matthew
Valarde, had reported directly to head of marketing Tony Hodge.
Batley was previously media relations manager at Manweb, part of the
utilities group ScottishPower, covering the north west and Wales.
Littlewoods Leisure’s traditional revenue base has come under threat
from the popularity of the National Lottery in the last few years. The
company is developing internet products to run alongside pools,
scratchcard and spot-the-ball competitions.
