Flack: (saving) on expenses - Ichi Sushi, London SE1

Reviewer Danny Rogers, editor, PRWeek

- What is it good for?

This is a new sushi and sashimi bar situated within the smart new hotel that sits on the south side of Westminster Bridge. It is very handy for Westminster and Whitehall, with stunning views of Big Ben. With only 30 covers, the space is quite small - next to the Park Plaza's main bar - but the tables are discreet enough for a business chat. The real appeal, however, is the beautiful fresh fish.

- Signature dishes

Unusual starters include Scallops Jalapeno, which are sliced scallops with a spicy sauce, and Muzuku, a seaweed grown on sea rock with sweet vinegar.

- Who's the boss?

All the dishes are made upon order by a team of sushi chefs led by Sadayuki Okamoto. He has more than 30 years' experience.

- Tips please

Try to book a seat by the window. Also the drinks menu is huge, because you order it from the main hotel bar.

- What's the damage?

Sushi portions (two pieces) range from £4.50 to £8, or you can order a sushi and sashimi combination, which includes 17 pieces, for £45.

First Floor, Park Plaza Westminster Bridge, London SE1 7UT. 020 7620 7373.
