Technology: Firms wary of engaging

Leading UK tech brands are failing to engage through social media channels, according to research by Wildfire PR.

Ninety per cent of the top UK tech firms have a presence on at least two social media sites, the research found. However, only 43 per cent of firms who have a Twitter account actually bother replying to tweets, while just 25 per cent of the brands on Facebook reply to followers' comments.

Wildfire PR MD Debby Penton said: 'It is surprising to find that so many technology firms are trying to force old marketing techniques on to the way they use social media.'

The agency looked at the 50 brands featured in the 2009 Deloitte Fast Tech 50 table.
