Reuters Media Group has appointed PurplePatch, its first outside
agency since forming 18 months ago, after a four-way pitch.
The six-figure PR account is to promote the new media arm of Reuters
Global Information and News Group in the UK and Ireland.
The appointment coincides with the parent company’s pledge to spend
pounds 500 million over four years on internet development, shifting its
Reuters Media Group is already a content provider for web pages and
other new media outlets, supplying text, pictures, graphics and video to
clients such as BBC Online.
Geoffrey Wheating, Reuters Media Group director of strategic
development, said that UK business has been ’booming’ since the venture
PurplePatch managing director Bert Moore said: ’It will be a PR-driven
strategy to build their business.’
The campaign will be in three parts: an official launch of the service
in March; a media relations programme; and a series of partnerships,
such as conferences, which would have on-line and off-line
