Computer manufacturer ARM Holdings has claimed the title of ’the
UK’s best-loved company’ according to the latest quarterly Press Watch
The company, which rose from 45th place, notched up a higher score for
the fourth quarter of 1999 than for the previous three quarters
Tesco and Virgin were second and third with telecoms giant Energis in
fourth place and retailer Matalan in fifth.
Press Watch monitors and scores media comment in the national press,
using it to rate each firm’s reputation.
ARM’s 1,314 points reflects its favourable coverage in the financial
press. Tesco’s 1,208 points shows it is winning the PR war against rival
Sainsbury, third from last on -2,308 points. Bottom of the list was
Railtrack, which failed to score any positive results in 1999.
