ITN is to provide news to a children’s web site, www.miss
dorothy.com, which has just been launched by journalist and TV presenter
Sharon Doughty.
The site revolves around a central character, Dot, who is a
nine-year-old, web-literate girl.
The aim is to educate and introduce families to the internet through her
escapades. ITN will provide breaking news content of interest to
families and children.
Garron Baines, managing director for ITN New Media, said the venture is
an opportunity for ITN to approach the children’s sector - a new market
for the company.
’The challenge will be to tailor serious news to an audience of six- to
ten-year-olds,’ he said.
’In the UK, four out of ten children have access to the internet and
they can embrace technology in a way that may be difficult for some
adults.’
Doughty, a presenter and journalist for Sky News, launched her company,
missdot.com, in October.
