GPC has recruited Turner Broadcasting public affairs director David
Sowells to head a new practice advising media clients and handling media
relations for existing clients.
He will be an associate director, reporting to managing director Peter
Bingle.
He spent two-and-a-half years at CNN parent company Turner. He is also
vice-chairman of industry lobbying body the Satellite and Cable
Broadcasters’ Group, although he will stand down in January when he
joins GPC.
Prior to joining Turner in 1997, Sowells worked with Bingle at The
Communication Group. Before that he worked for Nick Brown, then shadow
treasury minister, in shadow chancellor Gordon Brown’s team.
He will initially head a team of six at GPC, though the three most
senior staff, including Bingle, will also work on non-media practice
clients.
Sowells said: ’Media and communications is an area GPC has looked at
moving into for some time. My experience at Turner should help us
establish the practice.’
