Diary: C&W shows preachers that jungle.com boss is the king of the swingers

A tale has reached me from the insane side of PR. Last week, Cohn and Wolfe came up with an amusing stunt to promote on-line retailer jungle.com.

A tale has reached me from the insane side of PR. Last week, Cohn

and Wolfe came up with an amusing stunt to promote on-line retailer

jungle.com.

The day started quite strangely with C&W consultants Jonathan Edwards

and Samantha Fields dressed as Tarzan and Jane, wheeling jungle.com

chief executive Steve Bennett, who was wearing a gorilla suit, holding a

laptop and sitting in a shopping trolley, down Oxford Street. The trio

were followed by a retinue of 50 people dressed as assorted jungle

animals.

All was going well until they reached Trafalgar Square, where snappers

from the nationals had assembled for a photocall. Edwards and Fields

found the square already occupied by rollerskating street preachers who

were playing music and bellowing out sermons. The preachers were being

filmed for a Channel 4 documentary and were determined not to let anyone

steal their limelight - as Tarzan and Jane et al were trying to pose for

a photo, the ’preachers’ continued to rollerskate by.

Eventually, a photographer from the Daily Star, at the end of her

tether, turned around and slapped one of the god quaddies as he

rollerskated past with a ’Jesus loves you’ placard. In response, the

preacher started to shout and told her to ’get down on your knees and

pray’.

Edwards, strangely, thought the day was a great success. As chaos raged

around him, he quietly agreed to talk about God for the Channel 4

cameras and managed to get in a plug for his client. It’s a jungle out

there - you just need to know how to act like the king.
