WASHINGTON: Vice-president Al Gore has appointed media consultancy

Shrum, Devine and Donilon (SD&D) to increase his communications team in

the run-up to the Democratic nomination for next year’s US presidential

election.

Each of the SD&D partners brings something different to the campaign.

Bob Shrum helped oversee message development for the presidential

primary campaigns of congressmen Richard Gephardt in 1988 and Bob Kerrey

in 1992; Mike Donilon is renowned for his ability to interpret polling

data; while Tad Devine offers a strong knowledge of the nomination

process from his work on past Democratic presidential campaigns.

Gore’s press team already numbers 113, but while he is staving off

potential Democratic challengers, he is still well behind likely

Republican nominee George Bush in the polls.
