ATHENS: Top three pharmaceuticals firm AstraZeneca has selected

Hill and Knowlton as its first corporate PR agency in Greece.

The agency begins work this month on a one-year contract and has been

briefed to position the pharmaceutical giant as a responsible corporate

citizen, rather than simply a drugs company.

H&K will seek to capitalise on the firm’s existing community involvement

programme. The company’s sponsorship of health institutions includes the

autism department of the Daou Penteli hospital in Athens and a school

for children with special needs on the island of Mitilini.

H&K’s brief also involves some internal and crisis communications

work.

The agency saw off competition from Burson-Marsteller affiliate agency

PR Team in the final shortlist as well as three local Greek agencies at

the longlist stage.

AstraZeneca uses PR agencies for product PR in Greece but the firm has

not employed a corporate PR agency before.

The account will be led by H&K Greece managing director Robert Hipkins

and the team will report to AstraZeneca Greece CEO Christer Timelin.
