Adidas is losing its UK PR head Steve Martin following his

promotion to a newly created global role at the company.

Martin, who has been with the sports goods firm for three years, has

been elevated to global PR manager, reporting to Adidas group head of

global PR Peter Scanadi.

A replacement for the UK post will be sought before Martin assumes the

position full-time in January.

As UK PR head, Martin oversaw two staff and reported to UK

communications head Rod Connors. In his new position, he will oversee

four staff, who are already in place and who used to report to Scanadi.

Martin will continue to be based in London’s Covent Garden.

Martin has already started work on a global project in the run-up to the

Rugby Union World Cup in October. Adidas signed a pounds 31 million-plus

clothing sponsorship deal with New Zealand’s All Blacks in July.

’More and more of our sponsorships, events, concepts and promotions are

international and need global support,’ said Martin.

Prior to joining Adidas, Martin was an associate director at Hill and

Knowlton, where he worked on the company’s Adidas account for four

years.

The coming year promises to be a busy one for Adidas, with the advent of

international football competition Euro 2000, to be held in Belgium and

Holland, and the Sydney Olympics.

The firm also has sponsorship links with a number of individuals,

including David Beckham, Prince Naseem and tennis star Anna Kournikova.
