The board will initially comprise Charles Allen, a senior adviser at Goldman Sachs and director at a number of other companies, and Phil Nolan, senior adviser to Warburg Pincus, chairman of John Laing and former CEO of Lattice Group and Eircom.

Allen is chairman of Global Radio, a non-executive director of the London Olympic Committee and a non-executive director of Tesco. He is a former chief exec of ITV and was, until June, executive chairman of EMI's recorded music division and remains an adviser.

Nolan previously served as an executive director of BG Group and chief executive for Transco from 1998 and in 2000.

Rory Godson, founder of Powerscourt, said: ‘We think that having access to the battle-hardened skills of this group will provide a valuable source of experience for clients undertaking capital markets transactions and other strategic communications.

‘Charles and Phil have had great success over many years in business. They have managed and chaired substantial listed and unlisted enterprises. Their presence is a real boost to Powerscourt.’

Further appointments to the group are expected to be made in due course.

Former Sunday Times business editor Godson formed Powerscourt in 2004. Its clients now include BP, Betfair, Aer Lingus and Independent News and Media.
