PUBLIC SECTOR: Williamson joins Greater Manchester police

Greater Manchester Police communications director Colette Booth has poached the head of news at West Midlands Police, John Williamson, to become her second-in-command as assistant communications director Williamson, who joins in October, will be the first to fill the position, which was created in May after an internal communications audit (PR Week, 11 June). His brief will be to manage all aspects of internal communications and take responsibility for the force’s marketing and PR strategy. Acting head of news Sarah Dean Forrester will continue to oversee day-to-day management of the force’s news department, reporting to Booth. Booth hopes to unveil a new PR and marketing plan to improve the force’s profile later this year.
