DIARY: Tory stalwart at TCG launches with a left hook

Last week’s launch of The Third Way and Its Critics - the latest by Anthony Giddens - was a success for The Communication Group and its client the Polity Press, receiving a decent batch of write-ups in the broadsheets. But the launch will be remembered by TCG staff for other reasons.

Last week’s launch of The Third Way and Its Critics - the latest by

Anthony Giddens - was a success for The Communication Group and its

client the Polity Press, receiving a decent batch of write-ups in the

broadsheets. But the launch will be remembered by TCG staff for other

reasons.

Until now, TCG’s corporate account executive Piers Taylor, has always

prided himself on ’never having even met a lefty’. The country-born,

huntin’ and shootin’, Wellington-educated toff, with a stint as a

lieutenant in the Scots Guards behind him, turns out to be an old school

chum of the brother of Mark Seddon, launch speaker and editor of

hard-left magazine Tribune. Our source at TCG claims: ’This says as much

about the working-class credentials of the British left as it does of

Piers’ roots.’

Despite his freshly-discovered links with the ’loony left’, we are

assured Piers’ first task on returning to civvy street and entering PR

was to discover that there are newspapers other than the Daily

Telegraph.
