Inmarsat, the UK-based international satellite communications

company, has appointed Biss Lancaster to handle its PR on a global

basis, following a four-way pitch.

Fees for the account are in the region of six figures. Biss Lancaster

led the pitch on behalf of its international network Euro RSCG

International Communications, and will work closely with network

agencies all over the globe.

Incumbent agency Manning, Selvage and Lee did not repitch for the

account.

The account will be led by Biss Lancaster chairman Graham Lancaster and

consultant director Rosemary Drummond. They will liaise with Stephen

Rogers, director of marketing and communications at Inmarsat. The remit

includes corporate PR, business-to-business and media relations.

Last year Inmarsat changed from being an intergovernmental organisation

to a private company. ’The transition gives us a more commercial outlook

on life,’ said Rogers. ’We need to be proactive in all areas of

marketing communications, particularly PR.’

Inmarsat is planning an IPO in 2001, in the UK and the US. Rogers said a

financial PR agency would be appointed in the near future.
