McDonald’s UK is reviewing the role of internal communications

manager following the departure of Fenella Burns to advertising agency

HHCL and Partners.

According to head of communications at McDonald’s, Eddie Bensilum, the

internal comms position had grown organically in the nine years Burns

had been with the company.

The current communications structure sees four PR managers - external

relations, internal communications, media relations and community

affairs - reporting to Bensilum. There are a further seven PR staff in

regional offices throughout the UK.

McDonald’s also has a roster of agencies: Countrywide Porter Novelli

provides marketing support and works on its community programme; the Red

Consultancy works on sports marketing support; The Communications Group,

handles government affairs; Camargue looks at property PR, and Anderson

Kelly is its full service agency in Northern Ireland.

Burns is joining advertising agency HHCL as communications manager. It

is a newly-created role and follows the agency’s expansion into media

marketing and PR.
