Peter Metcalfe, a former regional business strategist for the

Labour Party, is to join public affairs consultancy Lexington

Communications.

Metcalfe starts work at Lexington on Monday as a senior consultant. He

will report to agency partners Mike Craven and Ian Kennedy, who founded

Lexington last autumn. Metcalfe becomes the agency’s seventh

consultant.

Craven and Kennedy have not decided which clients Metcalfe will work on.

Companies on Lexington’s books include British Airways and the

Prudential.

Metcalfe joins Lexington from pro-Euro pressure group Britain in Europe,

where he is business relations manager. He first handled business

relations for the European Movement, which was amalgamated into

newly-formed umbrella group Britain in Europe earlier this year.

He was previously public affairs manager for nuclear energy giant BNFL

for over a year and a researcher for MP John Battle - now energy

minister - until the general election in May 1997.

During his two-year stint working for Battle, Metcalfe was seconded to

Millbank for six months, advising the Labour party on its relations with

regional business in the run-up to the general election.
