PUBLIC SECTOR: London probation service revamps PR function

Inner London Probation Service (ILPS) research and intelligence head Stephen Stanley is planning to draft in a PR head, the first from outside of the service, after a communications review. Stanley wants the PR chief to formulate and implement PR strategy for ILPS and improve its communication with judges, magistrates and the Home Office. ILPS previously filled the role with senior probation officers. The move places ILPS communications policy a step ahead of the other five London probation services at a time when a merger into one London body is likely. The new head will oversee one other press officer and replace Mark Boother, who is moving to head the youth offenders probation team at Waltham Forest.
