MCI Worldcom International has poached BT Global’s European PR head
to lead its communications outside the Americas.
Angela Baker left BT last week and will join MCI Worldcom as corporate
communications director, overseeing media relations, PR and investor
relations.
She will have two people reporting to her in London and around 20 PR
staff working for her in Worldcom offices across the globe.
At BT Global, she reported to vice-president of communications Jim
Graf.
She takes over from corporate communications head Mark Weeks, who has
been promoted to oversee PR and marketing, including advertising,
outside the Americas, as external relations director.
He will work closely with the company’s group PR head, Frank Walter, who
is based in the US. Baker will report to Weeks, who oversees a team of
14.
Weeks said: ’She will drive and manage our PR activity across Europe,
Australia, Singapore, Hong Kong and Japan. Her job is to ensure a
multiplicity of programmes work to the same message.’
The appointment follows a similar defection last month, when BT’s
director, Northern Ireland, Lucy Woods left to join Worldcom as
marketing director for Europe.
Worldcom also uses Luther Pendragon for developing key PR programmes.
