Virgin Records has appointed Steve Morton, currently a partner at
independent music promotion firm Intermedia, to the new role of media
The role has been created in response to several departures within the
press and promotions departments.
Head of press Dave Pittman left the company last week to start his own
music promotion company, Vital Publicity.
Promotions director Tony Barker also leaves later this month with deputy
head of promotions Mick Garbutt to form a music promotion company.
Neither Barker nor Pittman will be replaced, as Morton will take over
their responsibilities, overseeing national and regional TV and radio
PR, press and new media.
Morton has been a director at Intermedia since 1997. Prior to that, he
worked freelance on record promotion and PR.
He will lead a team of around 30 people, working with communications
director Robert Sandall and new media director Danny Van Emden, and
reporting to Virgin Records president Paul Conroy.
Morton will represent artists including the Rolling Stones, teen act
Billie and the Spice Girls. He will oversee Virgin Records’ PR and
promotion agencies, which include the Outside Organisation and Anglo.
