Public Affairs: Phelan joins WS board

Weber Shandwick Public Affairs has beefed up its Conservative ties with the hire of Bell Pottinger Public Affairs director Joe Phelan.

Phelan, who joins as a senior director of public affairs and corporate comms, has been given a brief to grow the firm's client portfolio. He will work to enhance links with Weber Shandwick's Brussels public affairs business. In addition he joins the UK board, which is chaired by Colin Byrne.

Phelan is contributing editor for politics at Esquire and maintains links with the Tories, having worked with government members and a number of backbenchers.

He began his career on The Sunday Times and has worked in sports broadcasting.
