Luxury hotel chain the Savoy Group is reviewing its internal

communications after Shangri-La Hotels poached PR head Julia Record.

At the Savoy Group, Record was director of communications, reporting to

group director of marketing Geraldine McKenna.

According to McKenna, the group is considering re-structuring its

in-house PR following Record’s departure. Record was responsible for

overseeing an in-house team of five and financial PR agency Bell

Pottinger.

Record joins Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts as group director of PR in

its Hong Kong office, in place of Joanne Watkins, who is taking time off

to travel.

Her brief will be to co-ordinate the group’s three PR offices in Hong

Kong, Beijing and New York and the PR managers in each of the 37

Shangri-La hotels worldwide.

Record, who reports to Shangri-La’s group director of sales and

marketing Michael Ball, said part of her role will also be to look at

the possibility of creating a London PR office.

Prior to joining the Savoy Group in 1998 (PR Week, 25 September 1998),

Record worked for Thistle Hotels.
