Ogilvy PR Worldwide has promoted Brussels vice-president Rob

Shimmin to become global director of the company’s corporate

practice.

Shimmin, whose career with the company spans six years, will be the

first Ogilvy global director to be based outside the US, taking up his

position in the London office.

He will report direct to Bob Seltzer, chairman and CEO of Ogilvy,

looking after clients such as BP Amoco and Pfizer.

According to Shimmin, the move to appoint a UK-based global director is

part of a strategy to strengthen corporate expertise outside of the

US.

His brief will also be to promote growth in the company, mainly by

recruiting new PR staff.

’We will be starting a huge search for staff and could well be taking on

hundreds of people across the world in the next couple of years,’ he

said. ’The only barrier to growth at the moment is finding great

talent.’

Replacing Shimmin as managing director of Ogilvy PR in Brussels is Peter

Verhille. He joined the agency in April as head of the Brussels public

affairs practice.
