Clare becomes first PR director for Coral

The UK’s third-largest bookmaker, Coral Eurobet, has appointed Simon Clare as its first ever PR director to coincide with its rebranding.

The UK’s third-largest bookmaker, Coral Eurobet, has appointed

Simon Clare as its first ever PR director to coincide with its

rebranding.

Until recently the company was known as Coral International. The name

change follows the integration of on-line betting company Eurobet, which

was acquired last December. Eurobet is fast exceeding the group’s

off-line gambling outfit, with a weekly turnover of pounds 2

million.

Clare, who previously worked in Coral’s press office as racecourse PR

manager, now heads the group’s PR, overseeing both off- and on-line

betting concerns.

Reporting to Coral’s managing director Trevor Beaumont, Clare’s brief is

to raise the profile of Coral Eurobet, in particular its on-line

venture.

He said: ’My main role will be to get both the Coral and Eurobet names

known globally with a view to becoming the biggest betting service in

the world.’

The group created Clare’s PR position as part of a multi-million pound

investment in the internet betting initiative.

Clare will oversee Coral’s three-strong in-house team in the UK and its

external agency Hill and Knowlton.

H&K was appointed to handle the Eurobet account last month after the

resignation of Burson-Marsteller which was only appointed in March (PR

Week, 3 March).

According to Deborah Saw, who headed the account, B-M resigned just a

month after it was appointed due to the departure of Coral’s director of

marketing Steve Finnemore, who left to join Ladbrokes as marketing

director of its on-line service.
