The Works has found that CVs from PR candidates with a public sector background have soared by 62 per cent since Chancellor George Osborne announced the cuts.
The figures also showed that half of those candidates were from an agency background, i.e. working for agencies with public sector clients. Sarah Leembruggen, managing partner at The Works, suggested candidates with no recent private sector PR or comms experience would have a 'tougher battle' to win over human resources staff.
She said: 'One of the biggest hurdles is the perception, real or imagined, that the public sector is processrather than results or profit-driven.'
