Forster director Peter Gilheany said: 'The public sector downturn is deeper than we expected. We need to restructure and are consulting with the team on the best way to do that.' He added that there were likely to be some redundancies.

PRWeek revealed last week that public sector specialist Kindred may lose up to one-third of the agency's 80-plus staff owing to Government spending cuts. The PRWeek public sector league tables this week showed that half of the top ten saw double-digit drops in public sector fee income during 2009.

The news of potential cuts at Forster comes as it launches Forster AGEncy, a new dedicated team aimed at delivering comms to meet the needs of older people.

Pippa Strutt, former director of Hill & Knowlton's public and third sector division, will co-lead the service with senior insight and strategy comms specialist Amy Meadows.
