Former Daily Mail political correspondent Michael Lea was hired as Gordon Brown’s chief writer last May, based in the Downing Street strategic comms unit.
Lea continued to handle the same role when the coalition Government took power in May. He leaves this week.
Lea is understood to be joining the satellite broadcasting company because he ‘wanted a new challenge’.
Downing Street is seeking a replacement, who is likely to be found in the coming months.
