Sao Paulo: Public relations services company PR Newswire has

appointed Patricia Canary to the newly-created role of vice-president

for Latin America.

She starts this week, reporting to the company’s president for the

Americas, Charlie Morin.

Canary, a specialist in sales and corporate communications, has been a

director of the Latin American operation for two years, heading PRN’s

regional expansion and the opening of its Sao Paulo bureau in 1999.

Commenting on the increase in PRN’s work in Latin America in recent

months, she said: ’The volume of news release traffic to hispanic media

in the US and to Latin American media has almost doubled since this time

last year.’

Canary will head the newly-created Latin American desk from Miami,

running a team of press release distribution staff fluent in both

Spanish and Portuguese.

PRN has links with local services firms across Latin America. The firm

has signed exclusive agreements for distribution with Noticias

Argentinas in Buenos Aires and FinSat in Mexico, while in Venezuela PRN

uses Infoven News Agency. For the rest of the continent the company uses

Knight Ridder’s PressLink service.

Last year it bought Two Ten Communications, the Press Association’s UK

news release distributor.

Canary joined PRN in 1992 in Los Angeles, transferring to Florida the

following year to manage the Miami bureau. Before joining PRN, she

headed PR for oil firm Atlantic Richfield’s Arco-Graphite motor oil

brand. She has also worked for Malaysian Airlines and Toyota Motor Sales

in a career spanning 40 years.
