Satellite communications company Inmarsat has appointed Financial

Dynamics to handle financial PR on an international basis.

FD’s remit includes Europe and the rest of the world, with New

York-based Sard Verbinnen handling work in the US.

Stephen Rogers, Inmarsat’s director of marketing and communications, saw

five agencies before making the appointments. Perry Hill, a partner at

Financial Dynamics, will head the Inmarsat account on a day-to-day

basis, reporting to Rogers.

Last year, Inmarsat changed from being an intergovernmental organisation

to a private limited company. At the time, there was an undertaking that

the company would move to an IPO sometime during 2001. Any Inmarsat IPO

is expected to be a multi-billion pound flotation.

It is the first time it has appointed a financial PR agency. Rogers said

seeking external financial advice was ’part of the company’s desire to

move to a more commercial outlook’.

In February, Inmarsat acquired the integrated communications operations

of telecoms business EAE Group.

Biss Lancaster was hired for Inmarsat’s global PR last month (PR Week,

10 March).
