Edelman PR Worldwide has poached Ashton Coleman-Smith to head its

European-wide consumer practice. He joins the agency from rival Hill and

Knowlton where he was MD of its corporate and consumer financial

group.

According to Coleman-Smith his brief at Edelman will be similar to the

type of work he oversaw at H&K, using consumer brand marketing

techniques on business clients.

’I will be taking consumer marketing methods to all types of brands.

That is the way communications is going,’ said Coleman-Smith.

In the UK Coleman-Smith will manage a team of 20 and report to Edelman’s

UK chief executive Tari Hibbitt. He replaces Christina Smedley who left

in February to join Amazon.com as director of communications.

Coleman-Smith expects to work on Edelman clients such as Procter and

Gamble, Ericsson and the Millennium Dome. His brief has also been

extended to expand Edelman’s consumer marketing capabilities throughout

Europe.

’I will have a roving remit and will also develop new products and

services to roll-out across Europe,’ he said.

Coleman-Smith will liaise with the consumer heads in each market and

report to Edelman’s European president Rosanna D’Antona.

H&K has appointed Keith Sharpe, former head of B-M’s corporate practice

as a senior consultant within its corporate and consumer financial

practice, effectively replacing Coleman-Smith.
