PR Conference: The IPR last week elected Ian Wright, communications
director at Boots the Chemists, as its president for 2001.
Wright, who is chair of Liberal Democrats in Public Relations and was
involved in the party’s 1997 election campaign, ran against John Gray,
marketing director of the British Red Cross. Wright won 360 votes
against Gray’s 288.
Alison Clarke, chief executive of Shandwick Welbeck, succeeds Railtrack
corporate affairs director Philip Dewhurst as president next year.
Clarke has been promoted to chief executive of Shandwick in the
Asia-Pacific region as of next January, and will carry out her
presidential duties from Singapore.
- The IPR is to set up a policy unit next year on issues such as
regulation of lobbyists and editorial charges. A full-time policy
officer will be recruited.
