DIARY: PRCA criticises agency recruitment by email

Midnight Communications has caused something of a ’netiquette’

debate of late, following its rather unusual recruitment tactics.

The agency decided, as part of its ongoing recruitment drive, to send

emails to hundreds of PROs inviting them to join its team in

Brighton.

Unsurprisingly, the agencies in question - Shandwick International and

Cubitt Consulting, to name just two - found the approach less than

amusing.

And following a warning call from the PRCA, alerting Midnight

Communications MD Caraline Brown to the fact she had contravened its

code of conduct, a ’sincerest apologies’ email was soon on its way to

all concerned.

’It’s an interesting case of the use of ’netiquette’ and whether it’s a

good thing to send unsolicited emails,’ said Cubitt Consulting director

Martin Forrest.

Brown said that despite the complaints, she received 35 emails of

support - and a few job applications.
