MADRID: Burson Marsteller has broken the one billion pesetas barrier in fee income for the first time, as revealed by the latest Spanish PR agency league tables.

MADRID: Burson Marsteller has broken the one billion pesetas

barrier in fee income for the first time, as revealed by the latest

Spanish PR agency league tables.

The international agency last year made nearly pounds 4 million in fee

income, ensuring its position at the top of the table.

Spanish PR agencies across the board reported a year of huge growth in

1999, with an average industry-wide fee income increase of 40 per

cent.

The three major players - Burson-Marsteller, Shandwick Iberica and

Sanchis y Asociados - remain at the top of the list with similar fee

income growth of around 15 per cent on 1998 figures.

Jose Luis Sanchis, chairman of Sanchis y Asociados, which last year made

nearly pounds 4 million in European fees, said the PR business is

booming.

’The market is growing because more people are using PR in Spain, but

the main problem is that fees are still very low in comparison with

other countries.’

The smaller top ten agencies showed the most striking growth, with

Llorente y Cuenca increasing its fee income by over 60 per cent,

alongside Inforpress, which has moved up two positions to eighth, with

nearly 66 per cent growth.

Hill and Knowlton dropped three places to 12th, with a fee income

decrease of nearly two per cent.

The ACH y Asociados group also fell two places and now stands in 10th

position, despite an 18 per cent fee income growth.
