Kellogg’s, the world’s premier breakfast cereal company, is on the

verge of announcing Aileen Thompson’s appointment as its first European

corporate affairs director.

Thompson is one of four managing directors in Burson-Marsteller’s

healthcare practice. She has been in that position for three years and

has worked with the agency for ten in total.

Kellogg’s would not confirm the details of her appointment, but it is

thought Thompson has only two months left at B-M, where she reports to

practice leader Ralph Sutton and European chief executive Dermot

McNulty.

Kellogg’s has just a skeleton in-house PR department, run by corporate

affairs manager Chris Woodcock, who was unavailable for comment. The

company retains Hill and Knowlton across most European markets. The

agency handles trade and product PR for the UK business, corporate

communications in Europe and government and regulatory affairs in both

London and Brussels.

Although the company has not yet made a formal announcement to its

staff, PR Week understands that Thompson’s new role will involve

reporting to the company’s European CEO and president Alan Harris.

According to B-M spokesman Martin Langford, the agency will be looking

carefully at both existing staff and outside options in its bid to fill

Thompson’s vacated post. B-M healthcare clients include GlaxoWellcome,

Johnson and Johnson and SmithKline Beecham.
