The Welsh Development Agency has brought in The Communication Group
on a three-year project aimed at improving Wales’s image.
The WDA’s three-year contract with Bell Pottinger Good Relations ended
last month, though the agency still provides Welsh Assembly monitoring
for the WDA through its Cardiff office.
TCG’s team of ten is led by group managing director Peter Hamilton. The
consultancy started work on the account last week, reporting to the
WDA’s media and communications director, Bet Davies.
TCG’s political, corporate and consumer PR units will all work on the
account.
The three-year programme will consist of a targeted media campaign on
investment, as well as long-term branding to project a more exciting and
positive image of Wales.
The WDA has faced accusations in the past that, in trying to bring in
foreign investment, it has failed to offer adequate support to local
businesses.
Hamilton said: ’We need to ensure that indigenous business development
is given equal treatment.’
TCG’s experience in economic development and knowledge of Welsh business
sectors were cited by Bet Davies as the reasons for awarding them the
account.
