US lift manufacturer Otis has appointed Rachael Headlam to the

newly-created position of UK and Ireland communications manager in a bid

to increase the company’s profile.

Headlam heads up a team of three people and reports to UK group sales

and marketing director Lindsay Harvey.

She is responsible for liaising with both the company’s subsidiaries and

its external PR agency, Spada.

A spokesman for Spada said one of the driving forces behind Headlam’s

appointment was a desire by Otis to more clearly define its brand

values.

Otis previously relied on Spada for generating coverage in the trade

press about its products. The agency will now increasingly focus on

consumer media coverage.

Headlam was formerly marketing manager for Express Evans Lifts, a

subsidiary of Otis which was created following the merger of The Express

Lift Company and Evans Lifts in 1996. She was responsible for the

rebranding and repositioning of the Express Evans brand.

In July, Otis shut down its Merseyside factory, which manufactured

custom-built lifts, following falling interest in the Middle and Far

East.
