United Airlines’ head of UK media relations, Kevin Johnston, has

won a three-way pitch to take charge of the newly-created UK press

office for Star Alliance, the world’s largest grouping of carriers.

Johnston fought London-based Brighter PR and The Saltmarsh Partnership

for the lucrative contract through his company Johnston Associates,

which has handled United Airlines since last year.

He will remain in charge of UK media work for United, a founder member

of Star.

Helen Maddin, of London-based Rosalind Palmer PR, joins Johnston on 13

September as Star’s UK press officer.

Johnston said the new press office will not affect individual member

airlines’ existing PR arrangements.
